The Role

The Site Operations Manager is responsible and accountable for the operation, maintenance and production for one of our Wind Farm sites.  They will coordinate and manage all day to day activities for the sites and be responsible for the Health, Safety and Environmental performance.  They will act as the primary company and customer point of contact for the sites.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

  • To be the person responsible for the day to day running of the wind farms.
  • To coordinate and manage all Turbine, Balance of Plant and HV Operations plus Servicing and Maintenance activities to maintain high quality of delivery of services whilst maximising the operational output from the sites.
  • Call in, coordinate and manage pooled off-site resources supplied by NPS as well as any external contractors as required.
  • Ensure that all staff on the sites complete documentation and administrative tasks correctly and in a timely manner.
  • To act as the onsite point of contact for both NPS Operations and Asset Management Department and liaise with the Owner in all Wind Farm Operations and Maintenance matters.
  • Report regularly to NPS Senior Management team to keep them updated on site status, performance and activities.
  • Set a high standard for Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality on the sites and lead by example ensuring an effective role model for all other personnel on the sites.
  • Ensure that all activities and operations on the sites are carried out according to company processes and regulations; legislative requirements and guidelines; plus industry best practise.
  • Establish that all activities and operations on the sites are carried out to the highest quality under strict application of NPS quality management system.
  • Ensure any incidents or accidents are reported according to Company policy.
  • Coordinate and input as necessary to any incident or accident investigations.
  • Liaise with wider NPS Management team to ensure all staff training and records of training are kept in date as required by company and statutory requirements.
  • Line manage site staff as required including the Operations Associate and Planner.
  • Follow company policies relating to the reporting and personal development of staff under line management.
  • To lead and mentor the Operations Associate and Planner and to assist the Portfolio Manager to mentor the Service technicians thereby ensuring all NPS staff are achieving or working to achieve excellent levels of performance.
  • Verify time spent on site by Service Technicians by approving their submitted timesheets before they are authorised by the Portfolio Manager.
  • Functionally manage the Lead Technicians who manage the Service Technicians.
  • On call and weekend work as required.
  • The post-holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected.  All members of staff are expected to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the needs of the post, the department and the Company.
  • Duties of the post could vary from time to time as a result of new legislation, changes in technology or policy.  In this event, appropriate training will be provided.


  • Candidate must be HNC/HND level qualified in a technical discipline as a minimum
  • Previous experience within an operations maintenance role specialising in either mechanical, hydraulic or electrical engineering
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and managing an operations or maintenance team
  • Knowledgeable in High Voltage systems of work, wind turbine safety rules and wind farm operations and maintenance management, ideally with previous site management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills to enable clear and concise information to be effectively communicated to colleagues, clients and 3rd parties in both written and verbal format.
  • Proactive individual with the confidence to make decisions, take initiative and display exceptional leadership abilities.


  • Degree qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • MS Project or Primavera experience
  • Understanding and use of plant maintenance software
  • Knowledge and understanding of CDM 2015
