Design Project Engineer

The Role

Natural Power is currently looking for an engineer to join the Design and Advisory Services (DAS) team to work and contribute to the design and construction of renewable energy projects. Working across all phases of projects from feasibility, through planning and construction, and into the operation of renewable energy assets, the role will involve working both with engineers within the team and collaboratively across other disciplines within the company to successfully deliver projects for our clients. The successful applicant will be involved in providing technical advice and solutions for onshore and offshore wind, solar and hydro projects both within the UK and global market.

Duties and responsibilities associated with the role include:

Work with the DAS team to ensure the distribution of engineering and design advice, focusing on the implementation of best practice.

Responsible for providing civil engineering advice including:

Traffic and Transport – Traffic Impact Assessments, Traffic Management Plans, Access Route Assessment, Offsite Road Modifications
EIA – Civil design, Construction Advice, Environmental Statement Chapters, Traffic and Transport
Review and create scopes of work and specifications required for designs or tendering works
Responsible for undertaking civil and structural engineering design for civil infrastructure including:
Infrastructure – Front End Engineering Design for site layouts, geometric road design, swept path analysis, pavement design
Earthworks assessments including cut/fill analysis, slope stability assessment
  • Design of structural engineering elements including substations, turbine foundations, civil and retaining structures 
  • Water – open channel and pipe design, drainage design, drainage impact assessments
  • Input to Project Safety including the preparation of design risk assessments, project safety reviews,  Principle Designer role, HAZID meetings
  • Undertake due diligence of projects including the review and assessment of civil design, access assessments, Balance of Plant contracts and civil engineering risks
  • Work with other teams and departments across the company as necessary to provide technical advice
  • Responsible for project resource management and performance including quality, schedule and cost efficiencies
  • Administration of project contracts including change management
  • Provide input to tender proposals including technical and commercial aspects
  • Work in accordance with CDM regulations
  • The post-holder will be required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected.  All members of staff are expected to be professional, co-operative and flexible within the needs of the post, the department, the Client and the Company
  • Duties of the post could vary from time to time as a result of new legislation, changes in technology or policy.  In this event, appropriate training will be provided


  • Educated to degree level in an Engineering discipline such as Civil, Structural or Environmental
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Collaborative working style; ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups
  • Exceptional communicator both verbal and written with capacity to communicate effectively across all levels
  • Experience of technical presentation delivery
  • Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Creative problem solving ability with a flexible approach and the ability to adapt to change
  • Excellent time management with the ability to effectively prioritise and remain results orientated


  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • Previous experience undertaking similar tasks within the renewable energy industry
  • Previous experience of GIS
